  • ARCH:ID Best Booth Awards Winner 2024

ARCH:ID is Indonesia’s most awaited annual architecture forum and trade event organized by Indonesian Institute of Architect (IAl) in collaboration with CIS Exhibition. This industry-focused event present a host of activities and programs that serves as effective platform for place-makers and stakeholders in architecture and built industry to congregate, collaborate, and connect.

Kinematic Pavilion is a kinetic installation that fosters a dynamic relationship between architecture and movement. Is it possible to create a transformable space that adapts to a range of community activities? Inspired by the camera aperture, our installation seamlessly shifts from an open to enclosed circular space, offering a 360-degree backdrop for immersive experiences.

People and performers are seen as living art, interacting with architecture and becoming part of the installation. A kinetic system enhances the backdrop by revealing warm light in the shape of elegant wipes and sparkles.

The collaboration also involves experimenting with a range of sustainable materials like patinated copper cladding, engineered wood veneer, and woven blinds fabric waste.

Kinematic Pavilion showcases a synergy of architectural creativity, sustainable practices, and technological integration, inviting communities to actively shape their environment.

On view 22-25 February 2024 in ICE BSD, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Young Ones Call for Entry

The One Club for Creativity

Young Ones is The One Club for Creativity’s competition for students and recent graduates across creative disciplines. Young Ones is home to four unique competitions—Young Ones ADC, One Show, Portfolio, and TDC. This global creative competition challenges students in creative studies to put their best foot forward in hopes of winning one of the first honors of their burgeoning careers.

For this year’s Young Ones Award, we’ve branded it with the concept that the Young Ones Award meticulously examines the creative process and shines a spotlight on the most talented young designers. Our branding juxtaposes 2D linear sketches with 3D rendered typography and employs a 2D circle as a mask to unveil the finished work beneath, mirroring the transformative and evolving nature of the actual creative process. Additionally, we’ve crafted custom icons for each of the four distinct competitions.

AIA Las Vegas Website

AIA Las Vegas

Las Vegas has a 100-year history of attracting unconventional, strongly independent individuals—including the maverick architects who joined together in 1956 to establish the Las Vegas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Today, more than 60 years later, the Chapter is still a vital entity in the community, with over 500 architects and design professionals proudly proclaiming AIA Las Vegas membership.

Tasked with designing AIA Las Vegas’s website, KUDOS endeavored to capture the essence of Las Vegas while preserving the organization’s design ethos, an effort that culminated in a visually captivating website featuring vibrant pops of color, glamorous graphics on the landing page, and consistent visual brilliance across all elements. The website incorporates a “Find a Firm” function that enables users to browse the Chapter’s registered members and submit inquiries to them directly.

Journal of Architectural Education

Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA)

This branding and website project for the Journal of Architectural Education (JAE) embodies the journal’s longstanding commitment to scholarly discourse and progressive architectural education. As a peer-reviewed international journal published under the auspices of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), JAE serves as a vital platform for fostering inclusive, just, and sustainable architectural practices.

Through meticulous design choices and a commitment to visual storytelling, the JAE branding and website project exemplifies the journal’s mission to shape the future of architectural discourse and education. Our vibrant branding reflects the journal’s unique ethos, featuring a scholarly serif typeface for the main logo and an abbreviated logomark symbolizing social connectivity with a red stroke linking the letters a and e. Incorporating a diverse palette that represents the breadth of essays included in the journal, the website offers a dynamic interface for architectural educators, scholars, and designers to engage in thoughtful discussions about the evolution of architectural education and practice, contributing to the journal’s relevance and impact for future generations.

Awards

  • HOW 2017 International Design Awards

The Type Directors Club in New York produced a traveling exhibition showcasing over 400 winners of its 2016 annual competition, which highlighted the best of the best in typographic work in both communication and typeface design from studios and individuals internationally. After visiting many cities in the U.S., France, Germany, Spain, China, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam, the exhibition traveled to Jakarta, Indonesia, where it was on view from August 12 to September 7, 2017, at the Indonesian Design Development Center (IDDC). Design and typography lectures were held at this venue during the exhibit. In partnership with the IDDC and Asosiasi Design Grafis Indonesia (ADGI), Kudos was tasked with developing design graphics for the traveling exhibition.

We designed 3D graphics for the exhibition by revolving T-D-C letterforms in sequential angles and floating them in space. These graphics were then applied to all aspects of marketing communications. For the exhibit space, we collaborated with APTA to design spiraling poster panels to be suspended in space.

NY 22 Benefit

Design Trust for Public Space

This was our invitation design for an annual benefit hosted by the Design Trust for Public Space, a New York–based nonprofit whose members believe in the transformative power of design within urban landscapes.

We crafted a unique invitation in which each panel of the envelope reveals a message as it unfolds. We combined typography, vibrant colors, and the angular shape of the envelope to emulate architectural forms, creating a visual metaphor for the symbiotic relationship between design and public space.

Raymond Jungles Website

Raymond Jungles

Since 1985, design firm Raymond Jungles has developed a dynamic practice inspired by the ethics of stewardship of the land. The firm’s work is innovative yet timeless, proposing design solutions that respond to surrounding natural systems while restoring nature’s balance and harmony on a micro scale. Raymond Jungles’s completed gardens personify timelessness and beauty, with verdant spaces that entice participation and soothe the psyche.

The firm’s design priorities are generated by the scale and functionality of a space. Simple, clean, and well-detailed hardscape elements are the quintessential bones of a garden. Planting volumes vary and bold colors and textures are used with intent. The firm is guided by Raymond’s personal and design principles: integrity, relevance, and nature’s honor. RJI’s informed designs tread lightly on the land, provide habitat, and incorporate elements of surprise.

For this website-design project, KUDOS designed and developed an immersive website that brings the viewer into the space through videos and full-bleed imagery, emphasizing the firm’s characteristic bold colors and textures and simple, clean, and well-detailed hardscape elements.

Consumer Technology Association Wall Graphics

Consumer Technology Association

The mission of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) is to help innovators of all sizes grow their business. The organization is best known for its annual trade show in Las Vegas, CES—the world’s premiere proving ground for breakthrough technologies and global innovators. CTA also educates U.S. policymakers to ensure the innovation economy is protected from laws and regulations that delay, restrict, or ban the development of certain technologies.

We created the identification signage and wall graphics for the company’s new building at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. We designed a wallpaper of super-typography along their floating stairbridge to create visual continuity between the floors of the narrow building.

Awards

  • PRINT Regional Design Awards 2017

Led by Mayor Ridwan Kamil’s vigorous efforts, the city of Bandung, Indonesia, is in the process of redefining and redesigning itself as a more humane and creative city. Working in partnership with the city in this project, we have been tasked to produce wayfinding signage, crosswalk graphics, and an e-transport card for Bandung.

The first installment of the city’s new wayfinding signage was officially announced in December 2015, followed by others across town. We designed a signage system that consists of a vibrant blue totem pole sandwiched by neutral-colored maps on both sides, providing tourist-friendly signage to help orient pedestrians and drivers alike.

For our fun crosswalk graphics, designed to increase awareness of designated crossing zones, we built upon traditional games like ular tangga (Snakes and Ladders) and engklek (hopscotch), as well as patterns from local bamboo musical instruments like angklung and suling. Finally, our unique e-transport cards—used for public-bus fare, bicycle rental, or paying parking fees—represent the rich visual history of Bandung City as well as its progression into the future, with distinctive graphics for each card to identify its specific function.

ARITA: Eternally Modern at NY NOW

Made in Japan Project

This was a collaboration with Made in Japan Project, funded by the Saga Prefectural Government. For the project, we completed the overall brand strategy, naming, exhibition design, art direction, website, and product design consultation for a government-led initiative promoting porcelain creators from Arita and their efforts to bring innovative Japanese design to the American market through NY NOW.

RESEARCH & CONSULTATION
Over the course of nine months, we visited Arita—the birthplace of porcelain in Japan—to consult with participating kilns and distributors over ideas for their product design, brand positioning, and marketing strategy for the U.S. market.

BRANDING
For the visual identity, we designed a lemniscate ∞ paired with the town’s name and the tagline “Eternally Modern,” pointing to how Arita creators continue to evolve four centuries of tradition, craftsmanship, and innovation into distinctively modern everyday products.

WEBSITE
Our responsive bilingual website was written for both Western and Japanese readers, with distinct messaging catered to each audience. We art-directed all of the website’s videos and photography, including a portrayal of key products falling in slow motion, close-ups in 360-degree rotation, documentary photos of Arita, and a video showing the porcelain-creation process.

EXHIBITION BOOTH
For the NY NOW market exhibition in February 2018, we designed a corner booth divided by a diagonal wall archway similar to those typically found in traditional porcelain kilns. Each creator had a museum-like stage and hidden storage underneath.

Produced in close collaboration with the Center for Active Design, “Assembly: Civic Design Guidelines” is a groundbreaking playbook for creating well-designed and well-maintained public spaces. The guidelines encapsulate four years of research—involving over 200 studies, 50 cities, and dozens of experts—highlighting the role of public spaces as a force for building trust and healing divisions in local communities.

We designed the published guidelines to incorporate vibrant colors and simple hand-drawn illustrations to help explain the significance of these research findings in simple terms, along with practical methods that policymakers can adopt to bring about great public spaces for all.

Bronx & Brooklyn Energy Hub

Center for NYC Neighborhoods

New York State and NYSERDA, the force behind the Bronx & Brooklyn Energy Hub, are funding an array of renewable energy technologies—offshore and onshore wind power, solar power, hydro power, battery storage, and clean hydrogen—to meet their goal of 100% emissions-free electricity by 2040.

The Bronx & Brooklyn Energy Hub isn’t just about making renewable energy accessible; it’s about forging meaningful connections—bridging gaps and fostering a sense of camaraderie among neighbors, providing benefits, and empowering people regardless of their income and status. The logo we designed for the Hub reflects this purposeful connectivity, as embodied in three intertwining and extending vibrant lines. These lines represent the accessibility of renewable-energy technologies, as well as unity among community members.

Made in Tokyo

Japan Society

The Japan Society’s “Made in Tokyo” exhibition explored the development of socio-architectural facilities and compared landscapes with art and performance generated in Tokyo between the city’s two seminal Olympic Games events in 1964 and 2020. Atelier Bow-Wow, a Japanese architectural firm, curated and designed the exhibition.

We designed an exhibit brochure that unfolds as a map of Tokyo. The brochure features buildings covered in the exhibition, organized into six functional themes.
